James McMillan, MD earned his medical degree at Loma Linda University where he also completed his internal medicine residency, staying on as chief medical resident at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Hospital. Subsequently he completed his nephrology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He served as chief of nephrology at the Loma Linda VA from 2003 to 2016. He is now the Nephrology Fellowship Program Director for Loma Linda University and is an associate professor of medicine. His interests include prevention of progression of chronic kidney disease, fluids and electrolytes, and lifestyle influences on kidney disease. He bicycles to work and enjoys inviting trainees home for a meal of homegrown fruits and vegetables.
