Neural protection is the key therapeutic goal for patients undergoing neural surgery, suffering from stroke, head injury, resuscitating from cardic respiratory arrest or anesthesia mishaps, and so on. Neural protective techniques employed today range from chemical medicine to physical therapies. However no ideal method has been found.
Recently, pleiotropic effects of statins have been discovered. Besides cholesterol lowering effects, it appears statins provide some neural protective effects against stroke as well. My research interest is to evaluate this effect and study its possible mechanism using an animal model.
