Loma Linda University Medical Center

Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC, 477 beds) and Children's Hospital (LLUCH, 343 beds) are the region's main tertiary care facilities for adults and children, respectively. As Level I trauma centers, LLUMC and LLUCH serve a geographic area roughly equal to 25 percent of the State of California. The Emergency Department treats a high volume of critically ill patients. Of the patients evaluated, forty percent are children and are seen in the dedicated 18-bed pediatric department. As an academic facility, LLUMC commonly treats patients with unusual or complicated medical conditions. We have one of the largest pediatric intensive care units in the western United States, an active transplant center and cutting edge cancer center.

Riverside County Regional Medical Center

Riverside University Health System Medical Center (RUHS-MC), formerly Riverside County Regional Medical Center, is a 439-bed Level II trauma center and is the largest trauma center in Riverside County. The hospital is state of the art, and is dedicated to serving the county and surrounding regional patients. Emergency medicine residents treat the diversity of illnesses typical of an underserved population. Emergencies relating to complications of poorly controlled diabetes, street drug abuse, trauma and psychiatric illnesses are common. As RUHS-MC is the designated county/trauma receiving hospital, residents are exposed to a significant amount of both blunt and penetrating trauma.
