Forearm, Wrist and Hand

The lower arm, the complex system of bones and tendons that exist below the elbow, is one of the most used portions of the body. We use our hands for just about everything that we do and living without full hand function can be nearly impossible. Most do not realize that much of the functionality in our hand stems from the delicate system of bones, muscles, tendons and cartilage of our wrists and forearms. If you have pain or limited function of your hand, wrist or forearm, it might be time to ask your physician about seeing an orthopedic specialist.

The complexity of the lower arm requires significant expertise that an orthopedist, also known as orthopedic surgeons, can provide from their years of advanced training after medical school. These surgeons typically perform an examination, make a diagnosis and prescribe a treatment plan. Treatment options can range from a total hip replacement (surgery) to simple, nonsurgical pain management. Your surgeon should thoroughly explain your options and the expected outcomes for each.
