Gary R. Stier, MD, FACP, MBA, CPE
Dr. Stier graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1983. He completed residencies in Internal Medicine (1983-1986) and Anesthesiology (1986-1989) at Loma Linda University, serving as Chief Anesthesiology resident in 1989. He completed a Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Virginia from January 1990-December 1990. He worked in Colorado and Southern California as a private practice anesthesiologist, returning to Loma Linda as an anesthesiology attending in 2004. Dr. Stier is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. He has is the Program Director for the Combined Internal Medicine-Anesthesiology Residency Program (2013) and served as the Program Director for the anesthesiology residency from 2005 to June 2017. He currently serves as Medical Director for both the Loma Linda University Preoperative Assessment (PACE) Clinic and the Neurologic Intensive Care Unit at LLUMC. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Neurocritical Care. Dr. Stier received a Master of Business degree from Auburn University in 2010 and is a Certified Executive Physician (Certifying Commission in Medical Management-2012). His interests include: photography, music, backpacking, healthcare quality and safety, barbecues, and his family.
Sonny Lee, MD, FACP
Associate Program Director
Dr. Lee received his M.D. from New York Medical College. After completing internship and residency in the Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency at Loma Linda University, he stayed on as faculty. He has been Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics since 2003 and is participating in the Maintenance of Certification for both the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the American Board of Pediatrics. He has been involved in Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education since completing residency in 2003 and has served as Associate Program Director and Program Director of the Med-Peds Residency prior to assuming the role of Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Loma Linda University. He remains passionate about resident education and, in particular, relishes assisting residents achieve whatever career goal they have in mind. He is married with two daughters. He loves sports of all kinds (watching, playing) but particularly loves watching his daughters play softball and soccer.
The Department of Anesthesiology is comprised of over 60 faculty members, many with subspecialty training in the areas of critical care, pediatric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, pain management, regional anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, and obstetric anesthesia. The dynamic faculty members add diverse educational backgrounds to the quality of the teaching program. Many of the faculty members are actively involved in hospital and physician leadership duties, influential institutional committees, and local, state and national medical societies and health care organizations.
Internal Medicine Faculty
Over 100 full-time faculty in the Department of Medicine are involved in the teaching program. All faculty members at each of our three training facilities have faculty appointments at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. The staff includes general internists and internists in the subspecialties of adolescent medicine, allergy, cardiology, clinical pharmacology, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hematology, infectious disease, intensive care medicine, nephrology, oncology, pulmonary medicine and rheumatology.
