Home Blood Sugar Testing

There are a wide variety of home meters for testing bloog sugar. Prices vary depending on the type of meter and personal preference. Each meter has its own blood sugar strips that are used for the specific meter only. Strips are not interchangeable for use on other meters. Each meter may vary in the amount of blood needed on the strip and the amount of time required to view the test results. In the United States, blood sugar is measured as milligrams per deciliter or mg/dl. In Canada, Europe, and many other countries, blood sugar is measured in millimoles or mmol/L. A few meters can be set for either measurement. To convert mg/dl to mmol/L, divide mg/dl by 18. To convert mmol/L to mg/dl, multiple mmol/L by 18. For example: 10 mmol/L x 18 = 180 mg/dl.
