After undergoing surgery and other treatments for a heart condition, women will need follow-up care and some longer-term support to ensure that they recover as healthfully as possible. What to Expect During Cardiac Rehabilitation
Generally, our cardiac rehabilitation programs will progress along the following three phases:

  • Hospitalization – Our top-of-the-line programs start immediately after patients undergo surgery or other procedures for their heart condition. In an effort to help patients start regaining their strength, our specialists will have patients start practicing non-strenuous, day-to-day activities, including:
    • Sitting up
    • Walking
    • Limited stair climbing
    • Showering
  • Early recovery – As soon as patients are ready to return home, the early recovery phase of cardiac rehabilitation begins. In an outpatient setting, our staff will help women slowly increase their levels of activity by recommending appropriate exercise routines such as longer walks, home exercises and / or gentle calisthenics. During this time, we can also help women adopt healthier diets, quit smoking and improve their overall wellbeing.
  • Ongoing care – To help women maintain heart healthy lifestyles in the long-term, this phase of cardiac rehabilitation includes regular, but less frequent, checkups. Our specialists will continue to follow up with women to ensure that they have appropriately adjusted to their new lifestyle habits.
